SACRED TREES- Grade 2 ART

The grade two students created Sacred Tree paintings which were inspired by the work of Gustav Klimt. They first studied line, shape and mood in the work of Gustav Klimt and incorporate some of the formal elements discussed in his work into their own Sacred Tree Paintings.

Ancient Greek Pottery - Grade 8 ART

The Ancient Greek Pottery project was part of an integrated unit which included the study of Ancient Greece in ELA, Social Studies, Visual Arts and Drama. In Art class, the students were introduced to the history, significance and various forms of pottery in Ancient Greece. They created their Ancient Greek pots using the coil method of hand building and took their time to adjust the shape and smooth the coils as they constructed their pot. The shape of the pots resemble the Amphora pot and the designs are inspired by those on actual Ancient Greek Pots.

   

 

Grade 6 ART CLUB- MASK MAKING!

The grade six art club students used plaster strips to create unique masks. The plaster strips were wet and smoothed onto the face (or hand) of each student so each mask would be a perfect fit. The masks were then left to dry for a week. The final step was to use bright colored acrylic paint, glitter, feathers and ribbon to personalize each mask. The students had a blast with this project!

EXPLORING LINE & COLOR- Grade 1

Birch Bark Trees- Grade 4/5

The grade 4/5 split explored watercolor techniques such as "wet on wet", blocking out and using fine lines to add details to their work. They created these birch bark tree paintings by using masking tape to block out sections for the trees and mixing colors to create an interesting landscape in the background of their image.

Watercolor Trees - Grade Two

We decided to take advantage of this beautiful fall day and do our watercolor painting outside! The grade two students used the "wet on wet" technique to create a wash of color in the background and expressive lines with the tip of their brush to capture the details in the trees. They had a blast experimenting with color mixing and different watercolor techniques! In art class next week, the students will have an opportunity to go back into their paintings to add details or to create a second piece using the knowledge gained through this experimental watercolor lesson.
